In the past couple of weeks I’ve been struggling to keep my data organized. Since I’m using two computers (laptop for work and my PC at home) my data were not only disorganized, but also not synchronized all the time. Luckily, I found a neat program from Microsoft (and it’s free too!) called the FolderShare.

Basically, you install a small program to your computers where you want your data to be synchronized. The setup is painless and done via web interface (although FolderShare gives you a small program to change your settings and to go to your shared folder.) But how do you decide which computer is the server and which one is the client? Unfortunately there is no direct option to do this since it is not a file-server backup kind-a-thing. But… there is an option where you can setup a computer to be automatically or manually synched so your old data is not overwriting your new data.
Not only you can share your files with yourself, you can also share folders to different users. I personally haven’t tried this last option, but it should be useful if you work with other people using shared data.
FolderShare not only works with Windows, but also works with Mac. Unfortunately, there is no option for Linux just yet.
